Je viens de lire cet article parce que je cherchais des informations concernant le handicap de ma mère et une possible connexion avec l’autisme.
Quand je lui ai parlé de mes suspicions d’autisme, elle m'a raconté mon comportement anormal étant petite et a souligné plus d'une fois qu'elle avait eu exactement le même étant enfant (d'ailleurs, sa mère lui a toujours dit que mon comportement bizarre était de sa faute, que je copiais ma mère).

Ma mère a une infirmité motrice cérébrale (Cerebral Palsy) et je me demandais s'il était possible qu'elle accumule avec l'autisme. C'est apparemment le cas.

Study reveals significant overlap between autism, ADHD, epilepsy and cerebral palsy

There is considerable overlap between diagnoses of attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), autism spectrum disorder (ASD), epilepsy and cerebral palsy in children, a study has found.

Scientists at University College London and the Norwegian Institute of Public Health looked at information on children up to the age of 11 who had been diagnosed with one or more of these conditions.

Data were obtained from the Norwegian Patient Register for 2008 to 2010.

The researchers found that older children had the highest proportions of ASD, ADHD and epilepsy.

By age 11, 0.7 per cent of youngsters had ASD, 2.9 per cent had ADHD and 0.9 per cent had been diagnosed with epilepsy.

All of the disorders were shown to be more common in boys than girls and many children had more than one diagnosis.

For instance, 11.2 per cent of children with ASD had also been diagnosed with epilepsy, as had 5.3 per cent of youngsters with ADHD.

Among children with a primary diagnosis of epilepsy, 12.8 per cent also had cerebral palsy, 7.8 per cent had ADHD and 6.1 per cent had ASD.

Publishing their observations in the journal Pediatrics, the study authors concluded: “The findings demonstrate the significant burden of disease associated with neurologic and neurodevelopmental disorders in children and that this burden is disproportionately skewed toward boys.
